There are many ways that you can find web developer jobs. If you are interested in joining this industry, you need to know where and how you can get involved. Just like any other career, you are going to have to put time into the job search process. If you take the time to search for the best web developer jobs you are going to be happy in the end. It may take you a while to find the position that is best for you and your situation, but you will at least be on the right path to success.

Listed below are the three most common ways to find web developer jobs. You may have other ideas of your own, but at the very least, you should consider these three when it comes to the job search process. You may be surprised to find out just how many web developer jobs you can find by searching the three areas listed below.

1. As you probably know, one of the best ways to find web developer jobs is to use the internet. And when it comes down to it, the internet is one of the best ways to find jobs in any industry or field. Not only will it cut down on the time that it takes you to find web developer jobs, but it will also give you the chance to access the largest number of positions. Make sure that you search on both general job boards as well as on company specific sites.

2. Although some people think that this method is outdated, you can find web developer jobs in your local newspaper. The nice thing about this is that the jobs that you do find will be close to home; this is not a guarantee when you use the internet. If you are going to search the newspaper for web developer jobs make sure that you do so in the major city publication. In other words, the largest newspaper in your city is going to have more web developer jobs than a smaller community publication. But of course, it never hurts to check as many of them as you can find. You never know when the perfect job is going to jump off the page at you.

3. One of the best, but most overlooked ways of finding web developer jobs is networking. The computer and internet industries are tightly knit. A lot of people who get jobs within this industry know somebody who can help them out. If you are searching for web developer jobs, why not tell people who you know in the industry? Even if they cannot directly help you out, there is a good chance that they may be able to pass your information along or point you in the right direction. The more people who are helping you with your job search the better off you are going to be.

These are three of the best ways for you to find web developer jobs. As mentioned above, you should also consider any other search options that you think will work for your situation. To find the best web developer jobs you need to do your homework. It may be tough searching out these jobs, but in the end you will agree that it was worth it!

Making money as a property developer can be both lucrative and personally rewarding. However, to be successful, it is important to apply certain specific techniques. In this article we shall share some key tips to help you become a successful property developer.

The first step in any property development project should be to research the market. A good way to do this is to get in touch with local estate agents to get an idea of the type of property that is most popular in the area you are interested in and the average selling price.

The estate agents will be able to tell you what type of person goes for what type of property and what current trends in the area are. This information will enable you to ensure that the property you develop meets the needs of the market you are targeting.

You will also be able to get useful data by speaking to local planning authorities. They will give you an insight into the local economy which will indicate whether or not the area is up and coming.

The next step is to choose the right property to develop. Bear in mind that your aim as a property developer is to buy at a low price and sell at a high one. A good buy will reduce the risk involved and hopefully enable you to secure the profit margin you are aspiring to.

The other aspect is to consider how much you will need to spend on a property to achieve your desired selling price. Do remember that a general decorative overhaul can significantly increase a property’s value without you needing to spend a lot of money on planners and architects’ fees.

It is also essential to have a good understanding of the practicalities involved in property development. Before buying, ensure that you understand the building regulations that will affect how you develop the property.

In conclusion; if you have researched the market thoroughly and are tapping into your target customers’ requirements, if you buy well and if you manage your costs carefully you could make a lot of money as a property developer.

From Copywriter to Training Developer - Your Next Target Market?

If you’re currently freelancing as a copywriter — marketing and advertising work, collateral materials, direct-mail pitches, web pages — you may be able to add a corporate training market to your business plan.

Now, this isn’t a slam dunk. While some of your skills will be very valuable in this market, you also have to adjust your thinking to fit a different set of needs.

What are the advantages of your copywriting background for training development? You can write, producing both quality and quantity. Even inside the training business, many people don’t realize how much training depends on creating a large body of content, clearly written. Scripts, activities, exercises, supporting materials, online courses, leaders’ guides all take the ability to write a lot, and write well. You have experience in persuasion. You may already write carefully structured pieces to generate some kind of action from the recipient, and a similar need to elicit action (not just reading/listening) from trainees is all too easily overlooked. The return on investment and corporate training would be a lot higher, for a lot of companies, if they made a greater effort to get their employees to embrace, rather than just tolerate, the best practices and standard procedures of the organization. You understand the business world. Some people move into corporate training from fields like education, which can work very well. But compared to those individuals, you just have a much better feel for how business works. That said, not every copywriter is going to be successful at developing training content. Here are some of the challenges:While a persuasive approach is a definite benefit, it can be overdone. Your efforts to get your audience to embrace the company’s strategies, values, and standards can’t come across like a “get rich quick” or “lose weight instantly” scheme. And “longer is better” is hardly an article of faith in the world of corporate training. You’ll probably have to tone things down a bit. You have to reach every single “customer” in training! This is one of the biggest differences from copywriting. You don’t get to send out a ton of e-mails and hope that a couple of percent of the recipients pay attention. Training is developed with the intention of having an impact on every single person who goes through it.Return on investment is harder to demonstrate, and resources can be limited. You have to help your clients see the benefits of quality training, when those benefits are less obvious than a dollar return based on a lead cost and a response rate.Structure and information flow decisions are crucial. Training topics tend to be broader and more complicated than a lot of copywriting assignments. And you have to handle many more details than are typical of most copywriting projects. You have to figure out what to say first, what to say second, and what to throw away entirely. (If this isn’t a strength, you can still work with an instructional designer to develop content based on someone else’s structure.)In a way, the ideal training developer is a hybrid between a copywriter and a technical writer. The best training combines an engaging, persuasive approach with meaty content, clear explanations, and highly accurate detail.

If you’d like to try this market, leverage your current work. If you’re working with corporate marketing/communications departments, ask them to refer you to HR, to their training function, or to individuals who manage product/service training for individual departments. If you’re developing product launch materials, ask your clients how they are going to make sure their employees effectively promote and deliver the new products and services, and then offer to help them develop the needed employee materials.

Training development is certainly different from copywriting, but if you have the right skills and the right attitude, you may find it a logical next step in expanding your writing markets.

Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains is written in Great Plains Software programming tool: Great Plains Dexterity. Dexterity in turn was built with conception of graphical cross-platform transferability (in time - 1992 - mostly Mac and MS Windows). Plus Dexterity had database abstraction level (through C programming language). The result of such a shrewd future-looking architecture - Great Plains ReportWriter has multiple restrictions and drawbacks.

Let’s first look at the advantages of using ReportWriter:

?	Seamless integration with Great Plains forms - the most typical scenario - you modify SOP_Long_Invoice_Form or SOP_Blank_Invoice_From and then print your invoices with modified form - usually with your logo and changed formats and positions of the fields

?	Parameters Entry Forms. Each existing report (Reports section) has associated parameters entry form. Restrictions:

?	No Cross-Modules links. You can not associate report with the tables from non-related modules. For example you can not have Sales Order Processing (SOP) and Purchase Order Processing data on the same report (you actually can - but you need Dexterity programmer help)

?	Custom Reports. You do not have parameters entry interface for your custom reports, but you could use restrictions to restrict the selection. Custom reports could be used to export data from Great Plains in text (and then Excel format)

Advanced ReportWriter programming

?	Rw_ functions in Great Plains Dexterity. When you need cross-modules data on the same report (Bill of Lading, which you could produce on the base of Picking List) you need to move the report you want to customize into your custom DYNAMICS.DIC and fill the gaps with RW_ functions - these are allowed to be placed on the report with parameters

If ReportWriter doesn’t do the job:

?	Crystal Reports. Current version 8.0 and 8.5 (July 2005) are MS SQL Server based, where Crystal Report could work at will and produce all the desired links - we recommend you to base Crystal Report on SQL Stored Procedure or SQL View. You call Crystal Report engine via Modifier/VBA - you need Customization Site Enabler license. If you are on Great Plains Standard version: 7.5, or Great Plains Dynamics/eEnterprise 7.0, 6.0, 5.5 or 5.0 Btrieve/Pervasive SQL/Ctree - you need to install Pervasive SQL driver (or Faircomm driver for Ctree)

Good luck with implementation, customization and integration and if you have issues or concerns - we are here to help! If you want us to do the job - give us a call 866-528-0577 or 630-961-5918! help@albaspectrum.com

In the good old days, back when the Internet had about 10 users and the web was a far off vision, PCs were called Home Computers and anyone could learn to write computer games. Three of us set up in business to write and sell our own games for the ZX Spectrum (Aka Timex/Sinclair) and Commodore 64. We didn’t sell many games but we were saved by getting into the game conversion business. A publisher would release a hit on the Commodore 64 and we’d write the Timex, Amstrad, MSX, CBM 16 etc versions. It took about 3 months for one person to produce a game.

That was 20 years ago and things have changed a lot since then. The games industry is now a massive multi billion dollar business and development teams can number 50 or more. My first game had me as programmer, artist, and beep designer - (well it wasn’t proper sound!). I did everything. Back then games were written in assembler and you had to learn 6502 and Z80. Nowadays with a few exceptions games are written in C and C++. The days of back room programmers aren’t entirely gone- there is also ‘retro remake’ and ‘indie’ scene, e.g. http://retrospec.sgn.net/ but unless you have an exceptionally brilliant idea, you are not likely to get into the mainstream game business as a one man outfit writing Blockbuster PC games.

It’s not all bad news though- if you can program to a very good standard and have learnt some of the techniques- eg 3d maths, artificial intelligence (ai), and can produce demos of your code then you may be able to get a job in the market. There are plenty of books and websites that will guide you through the intricacies of DirectX and before long you’ll be a guru on vertex shaders etc. Sign up on games development sites like http://gamasutra.com/ (it’s free) and look for jobs. You will have to be good to get a job and prepared to work long, in some case very long hours. It is quite a tough business - when a game is under development, you’ll live breathe and eat it for 18 months-two years. And you probably won’t work 9-5 all the time.

There are however other ways to get into the games business and I don’t mean console development. There are other ‘genres’ of games that are much easier to get into.

1.	MUD - Multi-user dungeons. These have been around for 30 years and were the precursor to the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Games) that now exist. These are still popular and you can find the source code to several of these. I don’t know if any make money- most people are now used to playing them for free. Look here: http://www.ability.org.uk/mud.html

2.	Internet/Web based games. There are hundreds of these around. A good starting point is the vast directory at http://www.mpogd.com/ . These range from free to monthly subscriptions. Anyone can set up their own website and games using any web technology- e.g. Perl, PHP, Java.

3.	Play By Mail. This has now largely but not entirely moved into the Internet/Web Games area. Flagship magazine is a good source of information - their website is http://flagshipmagazine.com/

4.	Flash Games. Flash development is a skill in itself, though programming in ActionScript (which is JavaScript under a different name) is not that hard. There is a definite career path available through programming Flash games and there are plenty of books to teach you to write games in Flash. Flashkit website http://www.flashkit.com/index.shtml is a good starting point online.

5.	Mobile Phone and PDA games. This has become a big growth area recently and is likely to continue its growth as phones get more powerful. Its also one of the easiest to get into though not all phones are the same. All you need to know is how to write Java games running on the J2ME (Java 2 Mobile Edition) platform. Unlike the console world, Software Development Kits (SDKS) are available for free from mobile phone manufacturers. E.g. http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html and the best IDEs for J2ME development (Netbeans and Eclipse) are available free. Expect to see MMORPG (Mobile Multiplayer Online Role Play Games) before too long.

Much of this can be done part time in your evenings/weekends but be careful that you don’t let it take over your life and also that your employer doesn’t have any claim on software that you develop. Some employers have clauses that let them claim anything you develop. There are ways round this, often involving a wife or loved one who can be assigned ownership but take legal advice if in any doubt.

If you are learning to program games, don’t neglect the power of the web. Sourceforge.net is home to thousands of open source projects and many of those are games. Also game source for commercial games Quake I, II and III has been released by ID and can be found here http://www.idsoftware.com/business/techdownloads/

These are GPL’d so you wouldn’t be able to write games based on them and sell them without giving away the source code but you could write Mods. Several game modders have released very popular Mods free and have managed to get into the industry because of their quality. There are many games projects where you can sign up and program- this is an excellent way to learn new skills and make friends.

Microsoft Great Plains is main accounting / ERP application from Microsoft Business Solutions, targeted to the US market.? It serves the whole of vertical and horizontal market: most of the industries and company sizes.? Crystal Reports on the other hand is the leader in the reporting software industry and Microsoft is willing to use Crystal as main reporting tool for Great Plains, Solomon, Microsoft CRM, .Net platform, etc.If you are developer who is asked: how do we extend Great Plains ReportWriter with somewhat more sophisticated - read this and you will have the clues on where to look further.Great Plains Tables Structure - first of all you need to know the tables to link.? Launch Great Plains and go to Tools->Resource Description->Tables.? Find the table in the proper series.? If you are looking for the customers - it should be RM00101 - customer master file.? If you need historical Sales Order Processing documents - they are in SOP30200 - Sales History Header file, etc. Create ODBC connection to GP Company database.? Use the same technique as when you create standard ODBC connection for GP workstation - but change default database to targeted company database. Consider SQL Views - if you don’t want complex links in Crystal Report itself or if you need unionization from several companies - SQL view is the answer. Consider SQL Stored Procedures.? Sometimes you can not pull the data in one view - you need temporary tables to be created and the final query should be based on these temp tables - this is when you need stored procedure. Call Crystal Report from GP Screens via VBA/Modifier - if the user wants to call Crystal report for example - printing Invoices in GP and do it from SOP Entry window - you can use Modifier and VBA to call Crystal Reports engine. Create SQL Query to probe the data - we always recommend tuning your query and see that you are getting adequate results - in any case - Crystal Report is just a nice tool to show the results of your query.Happy customizing, querying and designing! if you want us to do the job - give us a call 1-866-528-0577! help@albaspectrum.com

Writing a software application is a complex task. The task involves pre- and post-project execution strategies. The software development lifecycle must have a detailed phase-by-phase implementation plan with projected completion dates.

Ensure that your needs are significantly unique to warrant a customised solution that will require software developers. Check that your needs can’t simply be fulfilled by existing products or plug-ins.

Evaluate your needs carefully and decide whether you need an offshore development company or one that is based locally. Offshore development from countries such as Russia, India and Israel can be low-cost but pose significant management challenges.

Assess the entire software team’s skill set. Make sure you select a team with an experienced project manager.

Make sure you have a good understanding of the communication skills of the team. Examine documentation samples from previous projects. This documentation should be simple enough for a non-technical user to understand.

Seek evidence of software quality certifications such as Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and ISO, which are good indications of internal process control. But be aware that highly certified companies might charge significant premiums as a result.

Choose a vendor whose size is consistent with your company’s requirements.

Try to retain ownership of the code to avoid vendor lock-in. If you are given a license for the code instead, negotiate the terms of the license carefully.

Perform the usual due diligence that goes into selecting any vendor. Look for relevant industry experience, references from previous customers, post-project support capabilities and so on.

Don’t enter into any agreements until you are a 100% sure that the developer really understand your needs.

A Word about Real Estate Concept

Real estate is the modern term for land and anything that is permanently affixed to it. Fixtures include buildings, fences, and things attached to buildings, such as plumbing, heating, and light fixtures. Property that is not affixed is regarded as personal property. For example, furniture and draperies are items of personal property.

The sale and lease of real estate in the United States are major economic activities and are regulated by state and federal laws. The two major types of real estate are commercial and residential real estate. Commercial real estate involves the sale and lease of property for business purposes. Residential real estate involves the sale and rental of land and houses to individuals and families for daily living.

The sale of residential property is heavily regulated. All states require real estate agents and brokers, who earn a commission from the owner of real estate for selling the property, to be licensed.

If you want to keep your interview process simple but effective, you need to take a look at these steps before conducting your next candidate interview. Enjoy!

1. Call the candidate prior to setting up an interview. Keep the conversation non-technical! Get a feel for their personality and attitude. If you don’t feel good about those two things there is no reason to move on with the process.

2. Have a face-to-face non-technical interview. Get your existing team members involved in this one. See how everyone interacts with this candidate. Be sure there are no technical questions asked. Discussions on technology is fine. If your existing team doesn’t mesh with this person there is no reason to move on. There is one thing to keep in mind here. Be sure that you involve team members that you value and know are committed the product you are developing. EVERY team has one or two people that are usually on their way out the door in one way or another so don’t sabotage the candidate by involving those people.

3. Get your 3 best developers and have them put together a very small database and a data access class (like the one described in this post - http://www.keepitsimpleprojects.com/viewtopic.php?t=14 ). Be sure that any environment specific configurations are set (e.g. connection string, etc.) Have them put together a very basic set of requirements for an application (e.g. the application should allow the user to create a paragraph of text and save it for retrieval at a later time. The total number of characters in the paragraph cannot exceed 1000.). If the job requires a specific skill, be sure it is included in some way.

4. Bring the candidate in for the technical interview. No need to get the team involved in this one. Have a quiet space set up for the candidate and ask them to develop an application based on the requirements (in step 3). Be sure that there is already a solution open in Visual Studio containing the data access class and any other code your team has decided to provide. Make sure they have full access to the internet. LET THEM DO THIS ALONE. DON’T STAND OVER THEIR SHOULDER!

5. Have your team review the code and provide feedback. Your decision should be very easy at this point.

This process will eliminate people that are not a fit for your team and it will also give you a very clear picture of the candidate’s skill level, resourcefulness, and experience.
